Buying A Pram Online

If you haven’t read our “Baby Pram Types” article, I suggest you read that first. When you have decided whether to buy a baby pram or baby stroller, your next decision is where to buy it, but before trudging round the shops take the time to surf the internet at your leisure, here on the internet you will be able to see a wide range of baby prams and baby stroller on offer, where as in a store you will be limited in choice. When choosing a baby pram or baby stroller do not get sidetracked with stylish brand names, but make sure you choose a model that fits your needs.

Online you will find numerous products that double up as baby prams and pushchairs for when the child gets older, the beauty about these products is they are extremely attractive when operating on a limited budget, and they come in many different shapes and sizes all available to view online.

Another point to consider when buying a baby pram or baby stroller is what kind of lifestyle do you lead is it sedentary or very energetic? An energetic parent is going to take baby along with her everywhere, even to the supermarket, and that is the reason why you should look for a model which is quite sturdy, light, easily handled and has good suspension. If you use public transport quite a lot you would want to look at a lightweight, easily portable, easily operated and compact machine. If you lead a more sedentary life style then you can choose a more traditional baby pram which has non-folding, rigid, frame. (If you have twins or triplets, please click here.

Other points to consider are what are the extra features available? Are they useful, or are they just extras to add to the expense and weight? How convenient is the pram going to be? How often are you going to use it? What is the guarantee offered to you by the dealer? When you are making a purchase online do remember to ask the dealer for a guarantee, and the terms of replacement. For example does the dealer have a policy in which they will lend you another pushchair or a pram, in case your new purchase has to be sent back for possible repairs?

Remember it is always very easy to get baby prams and baby stroller cheaper online, you just need to know what to look for and to know what you want. Once you’ve decided what baby pram you want and before buying online, you can easily walk into a shop, and ask them to demonstrate the workings of that particular model for you. You can practice the pushing, pulling, holding, folding and everything else that the model offers to your own satisfaction. Then come back home, and order your machine online for less hopefully.

Types of Baby Prams and Strollers

Being a new parent you are faced with many new challenges, one of them challenges will be navigating your way through the minefield of choice when selecting a baby pram or baby stroller, but what is the difference between baby pram and baby stroller, apparently the word pram was a word that was popularized in England during the reign of Queen Victoria and resembled a non-folding, carriage on wheels Still today the word “pram” is more frequently used here in England to refer to this type of baby product, whereas in America, it is more commonly refer to these as “carriages”. The word stroller encompasses a whole myriad of folding baby vehicles, from Travel Strollers to Sit n Stand strollers. There are a number of types of baby prams and strollers on the market today. The four main types of baby prams and strollers are:

Baby Strollers – this is far by the most popular type of baby/child transport preference for parents today. Strollers come in an increasing number of specialist types, but your general purpose strollers are often typified with padded seats and back supports, easy click harness or belt systems, swivel wheels, folding and locking mechanisms and obligatory storage pockets.

Jogging Strollers - which are intended for recreational use away from the normal flat and even ground surfaces associated with roads, malls and urban areas. Their construction makes them particularly suitable for more adventurous conditions. Jogging Strollers generally have better suspension to deal with bumps, usually air filled tires to soften the undulating ride, a deeper seat to keep your baby in, a five point harness system to minimize baby movement and roll.

Double Strollers – which are mainly intended for two babies to sit next to each other. Although some mothers with one baby may purchase a Double Stroller to use the spare seat for shopping bags and extra carrying storage.

Umbrella Strollers - these tend to be the most compact and cheapest of the pram and stroller ranges. Umbrella Strollers are usually intended for toddlers, with a basic seating material built on a metal frame and wheels intended for everyday city use. They tend to be rather lightweight and fold away compactly. Umbrella Strollers derive their name from the fact that their upwardly curving handles resemble those of an umbrella. They tend to be ideal as a backup stroller or when you just don’t need a bulkier baby pram or stroller, particularly if traveling.

Baby Buggies – these have really been derived from the ‘pushchair’ from England, but in the US, we refer to these as buggies.  The pushchair or buggy typically represents a cut down, lighter weight stroller.  It should be noted, however, that the term ‘buggy’ is less common and their original distinctions have been integrated into the wider stroller product lines of today.  If you are specifically looking for what you know to be a buggy, again it would pay to include the stroller product sections to increase your range and drive through value for money…

Baby Prams – which are traditional English non-folding baby carrier on wheels. But as explained above, nowadays these are often referred to as Baby Carriages. These have become increasingly popular in recent times. Their popularity died out in the past due to the non-compact nature of them and the fact that they stand higher and are not as practical or sturdy as their modern day stroller equivalents.
